A Brief Introduction...

the studio

Memories of fleeting, intense moments of colour in the broad skies of Cornwall form the raw basis from which the paintings are developed. The process is a fully absorbing, often emotional one for me as the moment is replayed and gradually depicted. Those drawn to the work always comment upon its ‘spirituality’ and, in this way, connect with a piece and let it take on a life of it’s own. To my mind, the artist can only make half of the work - the viewer always completes it.

A Brief History:

I was born in West Lancashire in 1976 and grew up in a small rural village near to the seaside town of Southport. I developed a strong passion for art whilst young and pursued it at all levels, both as a hobby and academically. I was awarded a first-class BA (Hons) Degree in Fine Art from Leeds University in July 1999. As a founder member of The Leeds 13 artist’s collective, I was involved in numerous high-profile exhibitions and projects pre and post graduation. Over the last seven years, I have gradually begun to concentrate upon solo projects and upon developing my studio practice. I have been based in several studios back in the North West: The Hub Studios, Berry Street, Liverpool; The Watermark 'Creative Space' in Preston and The O.K. Studios in Standish, Wigan. Then, in 2003, I moved to Cornwall and set up a studio in my home, close to Trerice, Newquay. I continually strive to push my work forwards, inspired by the amazing beauty of the landscape and the ever-changing skies above.

I have exhibited work in St Mawes, Padstow, Liverpool, Leeds, Bristol and London as a solo artist, also gaining commissions for paintings to be hung in both domestic and corporate interiors.
